Please Don’t Let Me Go

Please, don’t let me go

You’re my heart, you know

A child without a name

A ghost without a grave

Where is my home without you?

Please, don’t let me go

I’ve filled my heart with snow

Stars without the night

A left without a right

A chorus without the verse

A life lived in reverse

I have no home without you

All these years, I hid my tears

Afraid to let me feelings show

But now, I fear the end is near

We’ll go our separate ways...and you’ll never know

Please don’t let me go

Please don’t let me go

Jeff Tweedy’s 49th Electric Dream

Woke up this morning

When the glow of the screens

Intruded upon

My pointed pine sea

A beep through the silence

Plucked me from the sand

To answer a world of

Electronic demands

I’m trying to listen

But these voices, so loud

Angels singing to me

From up in the cloud

(C1) God’s in his heaven

And we’re here below

Both Google and god

Now know where you go

Satellites watching

With thousands of eyes

Facebook notifications

When somebody dies

Ten-second stories

Self-driving cars

Your likes and your mentions

Tell you who you are

If you weren’t online

What did you miss?

If you aren’t online

Do you really exist?

(Together we stand

alone we fear

If you aren’t online

Are you really here?)

(C2) Swipe, tap, type and tell us everything

Add your voice to the song that we all sing

Swipe, tap, type and tell us everything

If you won’t, then what is it you’re hiding?

Sometimes

We all get a little lost sometimes

When the road takes a sudden turn

We underestimate the cost sometimes

Of the bridges we burn

We all want to see the forest sometimes

But all we see is trees for days

We all want to sing the chorus sometimes

But the verse gets in the way

(C1) But it’s okay to stumble on your way

There’s time to play, no matter what they say

You only learn when you crash and burn

So don’t be concerned, ‘cause everybody gets their turn

We all miss the point sometimes

Wondering what it all means

We all make the mistake sometimes

Of trading people for screens

We all want to be loved sometimes

But we don’t know how to love ourselves

We all get a little lonely sometimes

But that’s not bad for your health

(C2) It’s alright if things aren’t always bright

Don’t get uptight, soon enough you’ll see daylight

You’re not alone, wherever you may roam

Known or unknown, you can hear it through the headphones

We all get a little lost sometimes

When the road takes a sudden turn

We underestimate the cost sometimes

Of the bridges we burn
